About the role#
The Student Intern Cardiac Tele 5A position at Lutheran Hospital offers nursing students the opportunity to work alongside Registered Nurses to develop clinical skills, including charting, time management, and assessment. This role involves training as a Patient Care Technician to provide direct support to patients under the supervision of nursing staff. The position requires a commitment of one 12-hour shift per week.
What you'll do#
- Assist nursing staff with delegated patient care services and maintain a clean, safe environment.
- Collect and record patient data such as vital signs, oxygen saturation, intake and output, and calorie counts, reporting findings to the nursing team.
- Support patients with activities of daily living including meals, bathing, grooming, skin care, and mobility assistance.
- Perform clinical tasks such as blood glucose monitoring, collecting samples, and assisting with urinary catheter care.
- Communicate patient information effectively to the care team and maintain professionalism in all interactions.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and safety standards, including the use of personal protective equipment.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in the final year of a nursing program.
- Completion of Pharmacology and MS 1 courses.
- Basic knowledge of patient care practices and equipment.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and following safety protocols.
- Ability to multitask and work collaboratively within a team.
- BCLS certification is required within 90 days of hire.
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician is preferred.
