About the role#
The Student Intern in Neuroscience Med Surg works alongside a Registered Nurse to gain hands-on clinical experience. This role focuses on developing time management and assessment skills while training as a Patient Care Technician. Interns provide patient-centered care through delegated tasks and support the healthcare team in a clinical setting.
What you'll do#
- Assist nursing staff with patient care services and maintain a safe, organized environment.
- Collect and record patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, oxygen saturation, intake and output, and calorie counts.
- Support patients with daily activities such as meals, bathing, oral care, grooming, and linen changes.
- Assist with patient mobility, including positioning, ambulating, and using mobility aids.
- Perform clinical tasks such as collecting samples and blood glucose monitoring, reporting all findings to the nursing team.
- Communicate patient information effectively and maintain professional standards.
- Ensure infection control and safety protocols are followed, including the use of personal protective equipment.
What you'll need#
- Must be in the final year of nursing school and have completed Pharmacology and MS 1 coursework.
- Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.
- Preferred qualifications include 0-2 years of acute care experience, a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, or a Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) credential.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work collaboratively within a care team.
