About the role#
The Student Intern in Neuroscience Med Surg works alongside a Registered Nurse to gain clinical experience while completing their final year of nursing school. This role involves training as a Patient Care Technician to provide direct patient support and assist with clinical tasks under professional supervision. The position requires a commitment of one 12-hour shift per week.
What you'll do#
- Assist nursing staff with delegated patient care services and maintain a clean, safe environment.
- Collect and record patient data including vital signs, height, weight, oxygen saturation, intake and output, and calorie counts.
- Support patients with daily activities such as bathing, grooming, oral care, feeding, and linen changes.
- Assist with patient mobility, including positioning, ambulating, and using mobility aids.
- Perform clinical tasks such as blood glucose monitoring, collecting samples, and providing urinary catheter care.
- Communicate patient information effectively to the care team and maintain professional standards.
- Observe patients as required to ensure safety and participate in risk management reporting.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a nursing program, specifically in the final year of study.
- Completion of Pharmacology and Medical-Surgical 1 coursework.
- Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) credentials are preferred.
- 0-2 years of experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
- Ability to multitask, follow detailed instructions, and work collaboratively within a healthcare team.
