About the role#
This internship at Lutheran Hospital provides nursing students with hands-on experience in a cardiac telemetry unit. You will work one 12-hour shift per week alongside a Registered Nurse to build your skills in charting, time management, and patient assessment. This position serves as a training ground for your transition into professional nursing.
What you'll do#
- Assist nursing staff with delegated patient care services.
- Collect and record vital signs, oxygen saturation, intake and output, and calorie counts.
- Support patients with daily activities including feeding, bathing, oral care, and grooming.
- Help with patient mobility, such as repositioning, ambulating, and using mobility aids.
- Perform blood glucose monitoring and collect specimens.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment while following infection control protocols.
- Report patient findings and observations to the nursing team.
What you'll need#
- You must be in your final year of nursing school.
- Completion of Pharmacology and MS 1 coursework.
- Basic knowledge of patient care practices and equipment.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively within a team.
- BCLS certification is required within 90 days of hire.
- A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) credential is preferred.
- Prior experience in an acute care setting is a plus.
