About the role#
The Pharmacy Intern supports the pharmacy team at Community Health Systems by assisting licensed pharmacists with medication preparation, dispensing, and distribution. This role provides hands-on experience in hospital pharmacy operations and clinical support. You will work under direct supervision to contribute to medication safety, regulatory compliance, and patient care while building your foundational skills.
What you'll do#
- Assist pharmacists with preparing, compounding, and dispensing medications.
- Participate in medication reconciliation and help gather patient medication histories.
- Manage inventory by restocking medications, rotating stock, and checking expiration dates.
- Maintain safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards in pharmacy work areas.
- Document pharmacy interventions and medication histories according to facility procedures.
- Support clinical initiatives like patient education or pharmacy rounding as permitted by state regulations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ACPE-accredited College or School of Pharmacy.
- 0 to 1 years of Introductory or Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE or APPE) through your pharmacy school training.
- Valid State Pharmacy Intern or Technician Registration or Permit (LPT).
- Basic knowledge of pharmacology, pharmacy operations, and medication safety.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with high accuracy.
- Strong communication skills to work with pharmacists, healthcare providers, and patients.
