About the role#
The Tobacco Education & Prevention Program (TEPP) is seeking a Student Assistant to support local tobacco and vaping prevention efforts. This role provides administrative and program support for community outreach, education, and cessation initiatives. You will work in a hybrid environment, splitting time between home and the office in Rancho Cordova, with occasional travel for field work.
What you'll do#
- Create educational materials and monthly social media posts.
- Attend TEPP team meetings and Greater Sacramento Smoke & Tobacco Free Coalition meetings.
- Update TEPP and Coalition webpages.
- Assemble and distribute tobacco and vaping quit kits.
- Review local and state media for the media activity record.
- Assist facilitators in direct cessation classes.
- Manage survey creation, distribution, collection, and reporting.
- Help with progress reports and other Public Health programs.
- Represent the program at community events.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an undergraduate program with upper division standing.
- Major in Public Health, Communications, or a related field.
- Strong communication and writing skills.
- Comfort with public speaking.
- A responsible and reliable approach to tasks.
- Reliable transportation for travel to off-site events.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain, including occasional bending or stooping.
Location & details#
- Location: Rancho Cordova, California.
- Term: Fall 2026 through June 30, 2027.
- Schedule: Flexible hours between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work.
- Workload: 10 to 20 hours per week during the academic year, with the possibility of up to 40 hours during academic breaks.
- Compensation: $18.00 to $20.00 per hour.
