About the role#
Cal/OSHA is looking for a student assistant to support the Research and Standards Program. You will help design and implement a framework to identify high-hazard health and safety lists. This is a part-time, temporary position that offers a flexible schedule during standard business hours.
What you'll do#
- Conduct literature reviews and develop methodologies for occupational health and safety research.
- Design, implement, and maintain relational and non-relational databases.
- Build and automate data pipelines using Python, R, and SQL.
- Develop and refine statistical models to integrate datasets.
- Optimize ETL processes to manage structured and unstructured data from various sources.
- Perform data gap analysis, preparation, and quality assurance.
- Provide domain expertise to support program objectives.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Sociology, Economics, or a related field.
- Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least six-semester units or nine-quarter units.
- Graduate students must be enrolled in at least four-semester units or six-quarter units.
- Graduate students are preferred.
- Experience with Python, R, and SQL is preferred.
- Prior knowledge or experience in occupational safety and health is preferred.
- Ability to pass required pre-employment background checks.
Location & details#
- Location: Oakland, California. All work must be performed within the state.
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Pay: $18.27 - $33.52 per hour.
- Schedule: Generally up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours during breaks.
