About the role#
UVA Research Computing (RC) within Information Technology Services is hiring student workers. Our team creates computational and data analysis solutions for researchers. We maintain high performance computing platforms and teach researchers how to use advanced computing tools. This is a part-time, paid student wage position.
What you'll do#
You will work with RC staff on a variety of technical and administrative tasks, including:
- Develop teaching materials, such as converting Markdown tutorials into video content.
- Act as a Teaching Assistant for workshops by testing examples, managing accounts, and supporting attendees.
- Update and maintain the RC website, including FAQs and wiki pages.
- Install scientific software, manage containerized applications, and handle benchmarking and documentation.
- Support consulting requests regarding code efficiency and performance.
- Gather resource metrics and help compute data for activity reports.
- Assist with logistics for the Data Analytics Center, Digital Technology Core, and outreach events.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current UVA student.
- Familiarity with at least one programming language like Python, Bash, R, Java, Lua, Julia, or Ruby.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work within a team and manage your own assignments.
- Experience with Git version control and Markdown is a plus.
- Commitment to attend in-person student group meetings weekly and project-specific meetings as needed.
Location & details#
- Location: Charlottesville, Virginia.
- Modality: On-site.
- Terms: Summer 2026 and Fall 2026.
- Hours: Up to 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
