About the role#
The Institute for Social Research at Sacramento State is hiring students for the Young Adult Tobacco Purchase Survey Project. This research project assesses how often tobacco products are sold to individuals under 21 years old in California. You will work with a research partner to visit retail locations and attempt to purchase tobacco products. This position is for research purposes only and retailers are not penalized for their participation.
What you'll do#
- Conduct tobacco purchase attempts at predetermined retail locations.
- Follow all project protocols and instructions provided by your research partner.
- Accurately recall and communicate your field observations to your partner.
- Attend debrief meetings after each trip.
- Maintain records of your travel expenses, purchase logs, and hours worked.
- Travel with adult partners to various locations.
What you'll need#
- You must be 16 to 17 years old.
- Ability to obtain parent or guardian permission to participate.
- Ability to obtain a valid work permit through your school.
- Availability for periodic travel on weekends, typically between 8AM and 5PM.
- Reliability and the ability to follow safety and study protocols.
Location & details#
- Location: Sacramento, California.
- Work modality: On-site with travel required.
- Schedule: Part-time, flexible hours, primarily on weekends.
- Compensation: $20.00 per hour.
- Majors: All majors are welcome, though interest in research, health studies, or tobacco prevention is helpful.
