About the role#
The Department of Writing at Ithaca College is seeking students to join the Writing Center team. Tutors work approximately 10 hours per week to help peers gain independence as writers. This is a paid, part-time position open to students from their sophomore year through their senior year.
What you'll do#
- Tutor a wide range of students, including graduate and international students.
- Maintain the Writing Center as a welcoming and inclusive space.
- Host workshops and class visits to promote center resources.
- Develop instructional content and complete various projects.
- Support Writing Center pedagogical practices by working alongside the Director.
- Potentially serve as a peer coach for new student employees.
- Handle all center procedures with a high degree of confidentiality.
What you'll need#
- Sophomore standing at the time of your first week working.
- Solid academic standing and strong writing abilities, specifically in expository genres.
- Successful completion of Academic Writing I, Argument, Inquiry, Research, and Writing Across the Disciplines, Introduction to the Essay, or the Ithaca Seminar in Writing.
- Completion of at least one additional writing course beyond the 100-level.
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Maturity, responsibility, patience, and a friendly, approachable manner.
- Experience with public speaking.
- Ability to register for WRTG 21800: Writing Center Pedagogy during the Fall 2025 semester.
