About the role#
The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation is looking for a Student Assistant to support digital communications efforts. You will work under the supervision of the Office of Public Affairs to develop content that informs Californians about consumer protections, fraud, and financial education. This position offers experience in government communications, social media strategy, and public affairs.
What you'll do#
- Research, draft, edit, and format social media content.
- Adapt content for different platforms and audiences.
- Assist with developing graphics, short-form videos, presentation materials, photographs, captions, and scripts.
- Identify social media trends, public conversations, and emerging communication practices.
- Review draft communications for grammar, readability, accuracy, accessibility, and consistency.
- Support internal communications, website content, newsletters, and outreach campaigns.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student (at least six units for undergraduates or four units for graduates).
- Minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital or social media platforms.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Preferred experience includes drafting content for digital platforms, using social media management tools, or creating graphics with tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud.
- An interest in consumer protection, financial education, public policy, or government is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a hybrid position based in Los Angeles, California.
- You must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the office, as occasional in-office attendance is required.
- Work schedule is flexible, Monday through Friday, between 8 AM and 5 PM.
- Students generally work up to 15 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during breaks.
