About the role#
University Enterprises, Inc. is hiring two Student Assistants to support the Audits Operations Bureau at the State Controller's Office. This role involves verifying claims and vouchers for compliance with the California Constitution and other regulations. You will gain experience in government accounting, program compliance, and professional communication while working in a hybrid environment.
What you'll do#
- Review claims to determine if they should be approved or denied based on established audit criteria.
- Research and gather information to support audit findings.
- Analyze claims against regulatory standards to ensure compliance.
- Collaborate with internal audit staff and external auditees.
- Support project coordination and follow-up activities.
- Complete additional deliverables as required by specific audit projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college or university as an undergraduate (minimum 12 units) or graduate student (minimum 8 semester units or 12 quarter units).
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Major in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or Accounting.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Organizational skills to manage time and meet deadlines.
- Initiative and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Preferred skills include knowledge of public administration, purpose-driven writing, and the ability to explain complex financial information in plain language.

- This position is based in Sacramento, California.
- The work modality is hybrid.
- This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited position.
- You must live and work in California for the duration of your employment.
