About the role#
The USGA Golf Museum and World Golf Hall of Fame is looking for a student or recent graduate of an MA program in Museum Studies to join our team as a Collections Intern. This position provides hands-on experience in object handling, cataloging, and the rehousing of historical artifacts within the nation's oldest sports museum. You will contribute directly to large-scale projects aimed at improving storage conditions and data standardization for our collection of over 85,000 objects.
What you'll do#
- Assist with long-term projects including the rehousing and cataloging of artifacts.
- Move materials across various storage locations.
- Support the team with incoming and outgoing shipments, including packing items and writing condition reports.
- Monitor gallery climate and manage integrated pest control efforts.
- Catalog materials using the TMS Collections management system.
- Standardize existing records by following the TMS Record Style Guide.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an MA program in Museum Studies or a related field.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
- A creative approach to solving unique storage challenges.
- A willingness to share your perspective on housing methods and work collaboratively with the team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
- Prior experience with museum databases is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site role based at our Liberty Corner, New Jersey campus.
- The position is part-time, requiring approximately 20 hours per week.
- We prefer a schedule of 3 days per week, Monday through Friday.
- Interns are expected to commit to at least one full semester.
- This is a paid internship at a rate of $20 per hour.
