About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will complete a comprehensive training roadmap designed to prepare you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist. This role provides an overview of store, district, and regional operations while you gain hands-on experience under the direction of a preceptor.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap and key learning experiences.
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run safely, accurately, and efficiently.
- Follow company standard operating procedures at every workstation, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by providing empathetic care and addressing patient needs.
- Offer immunizations and other services, including patient education, monitoring reactions, and documentation, where permissible.
- Counsel patients and field medical questions under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions and communicate with prescribers to clarify orders.
- Provide in-the-moment coaching and support to pharmacy team members.
- Perform basic inventory activities such as cycle counts and managing medication deliveries.
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, as well as company privacy and security policies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment or acceptance into an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- Ability to complete required training within a designated timeframe.
- Strong attention to detail to confirm prescription information and label accuracy.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks and pivot quickly between responsibilities.
- Proficiency in using math to solve problems, such as calculating dosages and day supplies.
- Ability to identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action.
- 1+ years of related experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service is preferred.
- Ability to become immunization certified is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite is preferred.
