About the role#
The USGA Golf Museum and Library is looking for a student or recent graduate of a Library Science or Archival Studies program to join our team. This paid internship offers hands-on experience in the nation's oldest sports museum. You will work directly with our Special Collections, which include over 500,000 cataloged items dating back to 1566. You will gain experience in library operations, including archiving, digitization, and research support.
What you'll do#
- Process archival collections by arranging, describing, and cataloging materials in TMS Collections.
- Use the TMS Record Style Guide to standardize existing records.
- Support our digitization program by digitizing materials and managing metadata in TMS Collections and TMS Media Studio.
- House archival materials and assist with moving or reshelving items across storage locations.
- Help fulfill research requests and support onsite research visits.
- Prepare assets for museum exhibitions and related projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a graduate level program in Library Science.
- Basic knowledge of digital asset management systems.
- Familiarity with metadata, library standards, and resources.
- Ability to lift and move library materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Understanding of best practices for handling sensitive and historic materials.
- Enthusiasm for history and the care of historic items.
- Interest in sports heritage or the game of golf.
Location & details#
- This role is based at our Liberty Corner, New Jersey campus.
- The position is on-site, approximately 20 hours per week.
- We prefer a commitment for an academic semester, though 12-month opportunities are available.
- The pay rate is $20 per hour.
