About the role#
The USGA is hiring five Championship Interns for the 2027 season. This role offers hands-on training in sports management, championship operations, volunteer management, and customer service. Interns carry real responsibility for administering national championships, from managing qualifying processes to working on-site at events. This position involves significant travel, estimated at 45 to 50 days throughout the season.
What you'll do#
Interns work both remotely and from the USGA headquarters in Liberty Corner, New Jersey. Your responsibilities include:
- Administering the qualifying process, championship entries, exemptions, and competitor customer service.
- Serving as a primary contact for players, parents, agents, Allied Golf Associations, host clubs, and tours.
- Compiling the weekly World Amateur Golf Rankings.
- Preparing, organizing, and shipping championship equipment.
- Supporting on-site operations at three to five championships, including course marking, setup, and Rules Office administration.
- Training volunteers on scoring procedures and operating standards.
- Completing a capstone project for presentation to USGA staff.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a Bachelor's degree.
- Competitive or administrative golf experience, or a clear interest in golf administration and the Rules of Golf.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication, follow-up, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- A valid driver's license and a REAL ID or passport for air travel.
- Access to a reliable motor vehicle for local applicants.
- Ability to maintain composure and work effectively under pressure.
Location & details#
- Term: February 2027 through October 2027.
- Location: Liberty Corner, New Jersey is preferred, though remote candidates are considered.
- Work Modality: Both remote and on-site duties are required.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40-hour work week with travel to three to five championships. On-site weeks often include weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
- Orientation: All interns must travel to USGA headquarters in Liberty Corner, New Jersey for a one-week training session.
