About the role#
As a Laboratory Student Extern, you will work under the direct supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Charge Tech, or Section Supervisor. This role involves performing routine clinical laboratory tests and assisting with daily operations in a hospital setting.
What you'll do#
- Perform routine qualitative and quantitative clinical laboratory tests on patient specimens.
- Analyze test results and relay information to physicians and authorized personnel.
- Collect specimens from patients and transport them to the laboratory.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Follow established methodologies, policies, and safety procedures.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA accreditation and other regulatory agency requirements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a NCCLS-accredited Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Technician program.
- Completion of all pre-clinical and core medical laboratory science coursework.
- Current Heart Association BLS CPR certification.
