About the role#
The Lab Engineer (Intern) supports geotechnical engineering projects at ANS by conducting soil testing in our in-house laboratory. This role focuses on sample preparation, executing tests based on industry standards, and maintaining lab equipment. We are looking for students graduating by Fall 2025 or Spring 2026 who want hands-on experience in a collaborative environment. Successful interns may be considered for full-time roles after graduation.
What you'll do#
- Process and prepare soil and rock samples upon arrival.
- Perform geotechnical tests following ASTM or AASHTO protocols.
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Document test procedures, observations, and results with high accuracy.
- Adhere to all safety protocols to ensure a secure work environment.
- Manage multiple tasks, such as packaging field equipment, restocking supplies, and coordinating soil disposal.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree program for geology, civil engineering, environmental sciences, materials sciences, or a related field.
- Ability to stand and walk for 6 to 8 hours per shift.
- Physical capacity to lift, move, push, and pull 25 to 50 lbs independently.
- Ability to perform frequent kneeling and squatting.
- Strong attention to detail and clear communication skills.
- Prior experience in a laboratory setting, specifically with geotechnical or material testing, is a plus.
Location & details#
- Location: Alvarado, Texas.
- Modality: This is an on-site position.
- Term: Rolling internship, initially set for four months with the possibility of extensions.
- Schedule: 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends as needed.
