About the role#
As a Lab Engineer Intern at ANS, you will support our geotechnical engineering projects by working directly in our in-house laboratory. This position focuses on preparing samples, running standardized tests, and maintaining a clean and safe workspace. You will gain hands-on experience in a professional lab setting while contributing to the accuracy and integrity of our data. This is a rolling internship with potential for extension based on your performance.
What you'll do#
- Prepare soil and rock samples for testing as they arrive at the lab.
- Conduct geotechnical tests following established ASTM or AASHTO protocols.
- Maintain and clean laboratory equipment, including washing reusable tools.
- Keep detailed records of test procedures, observations, and results.
- Manage day-to-day operations such as restocking lab supplies and coordinating soil disposal.
- Assist with packaging and shipping field equipment as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for geology, civil engineering, environmental sciences, materials sciences, or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail for precise sample preparation and testing.
- A firm understanding of safety protocols and a commitment to following them.
- Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 25 to 50 lbs independently.
- Capability to stand and walk for 6 to 8 hours per shift, including frequent kneeling and squatting.
- Prior experience in a laboratory setting is helpful but not required.

- This position is located in South Plainfield, New Jersey.
- Work is performed on-site.
- This is a full-time internship with flexible Monday to Friday scheduling and occasional weekend needs.
