About the role#
The Lab Engineer Intern supports geotechnical engineering projects by conducting soil testing in our in-house laboratory. This role focuses on sample preparation, executing tests, and maintaining the lab environment. You will gain hands-on experience in a collaborative setting. Candidates who show interest in the geotechnical field and fit well with our team may be considered for a full-time position after graduation.
What you'll do#
- Process and prepare soil and rock samples when they arrive at the lab.
- Run geotechnical tests using established ASTM or AASHTO protocols.
- Maintain and clean your workstation, including washing reusable equipment.
- Document test procedures, observations, and results to ensure data accuracy.
- Follow all safety guidelines to keep the work environment secure.
- Manage daily operations such as packaging equipment, restocking supplies, and coordinating soil disposal.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for geology, civil engineering, environmental sciences, or materials sciences.
- Strong attention to detail for precise sample preparation and testing.
- Ability to communicate clearly with team members to report findings.
- A firm commitment to laboratory safety protocols.
- Prior experience in a lab setting, specifically with geotechnical or material testing, is a plus.
- Ability to stand and walk for 6 to 8 hours per shift.
- Capacity to lift, move, push, or pull weights between 25 and 50 lbs independently.
- Frequent ability to kneel and squat.

- Location: Columbus, Ohio.
- Modality: This is an on-site, in-person position.
- Term: Fall 2025 and Winter 2025.
- Commitment: Full-time hours are expected, with shifts scheduled Monday through Friday and some weekend availability as needed.
