About the role#
The Geochemistry & Data Assurance Co-op joins the Geoscience, Reserves & Mining (GRM) team. This group uses geoscience principles to understand assets and quantify the value of orebodies. You will focus on assessing geochemical data and applying quality controls to ensure datasets are fit for use in resource calculations and mine planning. This role reports to the Practice Lead, Data Assurance.
What you'll do#
- Act as a safety leader by following and sponsoring all safety and environmental procedures.
- Verify that geochemical data from internal and third-party labs meets company quality standards.
- Use statistical techniques to measure the accuracy and precision of analytical results.
- Report findings to project stakeholders through emails, memos, or phone calls.
- Streamline and standardize geochemical databases across various sites and operations.
- Support projects with their specific geochemical and analytical needs.
- Evaluate new ideas and technologies to improve business processes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Geology, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with a diverse group of people.
- Familiarity with statistical techniques for evaluating analytical data.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to spot trends or anomalies in data.
- A quick, accurate, and efficient approach to learning new technologies.
- Beneficial skills include experience with QC controls, relational data management (Access, acQuire, Datashed), GIS software (ArcPro, LeapFrog, ioGAS), scripting (Python, R, T-SQL), and laboratory analytical techniques (AAS, ICP-MS, XRF).
- Proficiency in Spanish is considered an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
- Term: 8 months, starting January 4, 2027.
- Modality: Hybrid (up to two days per week remote).
- Status: Full-time, paid position.
- Requirements: Candidates must be enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution for the full term and plan to return to studies afterward. If not local, you must be willing to commute or relocate.
