About the role#
This 12-month co-op position offers students the chance to gain hands-on experience at a large-scale mining operation. You will work directly with the Mine Operations team to support daily activities, analyze performance data, and contribute to projects focused on safety and efficiency. This role is based at Highland Valley Copper, Canada's largest open-pit copper and molybdenum mine.
What you'll do#
- Act as a safety leader by following and promoting environmental and safety rules.
- Participate in site health and safety programs to ensure a safe work environment.
- Track, analyze, and report on Key Performance Indicators for Mine Operations.
- Assist the department with equipment selection, including creating operational strategies and business justifications.
- Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
- Work with multi-functional teams to streamline processes and implement effective procedures.
- Support the implementation of mine plans with a focus on operational safety and efficiency.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a post-secondary degree program for Mining or Mineral Resource Engineering.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Comfort working in an industrial environment alongside various engineering, technical, and operational personnel.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain, including operating vehicles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex ideas.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and PowerBI.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for the duration of the term.
