About the role#
As a Mine Engineering Intern, you will report to the Senior Mine Engineer to support various mine assignments and projects. Your work will focus on drilling and blasting, short-range mine planning, and construction projects. You will gain hands-on experience by applying your academic knowledge to real-world mining operations.
What you'll do#
- Act as a safety leader by following and promoting all environmental and safety procedures.
- Participate in company health and safety programs.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to develop daily, weekly, and monthly mine operations plans.
- Assist with mine planning and design, including pit and dump design, production scheduling, and optimization.
- Contribute to drilling, blasting, and surveying activities while providing technical services to mine production.
- Monitor and analyze operating areas, including geotechnical evaluations of mine plans and procedures.
- Support the development, tracking, and reporting of mine permit compliance.
- Perform economic evaluations and productivity analyses, and assist with capital expenditure documentation.
- Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to improve business processes.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science in Mining or Mineral Resource Engineering. Candidates with a background in Geotechnical, Geological, or Civil Engineering are also encouraged to apply.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously as a self-starter.
- Comfort working in an industrial environment with diverse technical and operational personnel.
- Willingness to work outdoors and the ability to operate vehicles in various weather conditions and terrain.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Windows, with advanced skills in MS Excel.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience in an open pit mine or working exposure to industrial environments is an asset.
- Familiarity with Minesight or other mine planning software is an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: Red Dog, Alaska.
- Schedule: Four-weeks on / two-weeks off (4x2) rotational schedule.
- On-site accommodations and meals are provided.
- This is a temporary, full-time, paid position.
