About the role#
Coeur Mining is seeking an Environmental Intern for the Kensington Mine in Alaska for the summer of 2027. This 12-week program provides hands-on experience at an active underground gold mine. You will work with industry professionals, manage specific projects, and participate in a group presentation at the corporate office in Chicago. The role is based on-site at a remote camp, with housing and food provided.
What you'll do#
- Perform sampling of soil, groundwater, surface water, waste, sediment, and air.
- Conduct manual stream flow measurements and hydrology monitoring.
- Collect, review, and analyze environmental data, and enter it into the company database.
- Operate field instruments and equipment.
- Document all field activities and maintain detailed notes.
- Prioritize health and safety by following all protocols and stopping work if safety concerns arise.
- Collaborate with team members and assist with other duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Undergraduate student entering your Junior or Senior year.
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5, with a preference for 3.0 or higher.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Ability to hike several miles over uneven ground and work in remote, outdoor environments during inclement weather.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Leadership potential and a willingness to learn.
