About the role#
The Mine Engineering Co-Op supports the engineering team at Red Dog Operations. You will work on drilling and blasting, short-range mine planning, and construction projects. This is an 8-month term beginning in May 2027. You will report to the Senior Mine Engineer and take on assignments from the Principal Mine Engineer.
What you'll do#
- Participate in health and safety programs to maintain a safe work environment.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations to develop daily, weekly, and monthly mine plans.
- Design mine layouts and manage pit and dump arrangements.
- Build drill and blast strategies and coordinate fleet management.
- Prioritize production scheduling and support surveying activities.
- Provide technical services to mine production and other departments.
- Monitor operating areas and perform geotechnical evaluations of mine plans.
- Conduct economic evaluations and efficiency analyses.
- Assist with capital expenditure documentation.
- Develop and evaluate new ideas and technologies for the operation.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science in Mining or Mineral Resource Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Background in Geotechnical, Geological, or Civil Engineering.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Comfort working in a multifaceted industrial environment.
- Willingness to work outdoors and operate vehicles in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, with advanced skills in MS Excel.
- Experience with Minesight or similar mine planning software.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience in an open-pit mine or industrial setting is an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: Red Dog, Alaska.
- Schedule: 4 weeks on-site, 2 weeks off-site (fly-in, fly-out).
- Employment: Temporary full-time.
- Compensation: This is a paid position.
- Note: This is a drug and alcohol-free workplace, and a drug test is required.
