About the role#
This is a full-time internship for a Data Science Student at our Canadian Industrial Division district office in Edmonton. You will work under the direct supervision of the Manager of Data Science. The term begins in January 2027 and lasts for 4, 8, or 12 months. This role includes the opportunity to complete a capstone project during the final two months of your term, where you will develop a prototype or visualization of your choosing that provides value to the company.
What you'll do#
- Perform exploratory data analysis and present your findings.
- Prepare data sets for machine learning models and visualization.
- Train machine learning systems using benchmarking and data annotation techniques.
- Assist the team in evaluating AI/ML model performance and suggesting improvements.
- Create data visualizations to summarize results for various stakeholders.
- Document your work, including successes and lessons learned.
- Develop a capstone project proposal, engage with stakeholders, build a prototype, and present your final results.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a postsecondary program, specifically as a bachelor's or master's student in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and visualize data insights.
- Completed coursework in statistics, specifically probability and regression models.
- Prior experience with a statistical or scientific programming environment is helpful, though not required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for working with both technical experts and business staff.
