About the role#
Aecon is looking for an Engineering Co-op Student to join the Earthworks and Roadways team for the Deerfoot Trail Improvements Project in Calgary, Alberta. This is a site-based position where you will work with experienced engineers and construction professionals on a major transportation project. You will gain exposure to heavy civil construction including grading, earthworks, underground utilities, paving, and traffic staging.
What you'll do#
- Conduct site audits and analysis while preparing daily, weekly, and monthly reports for project staff.
- Assist Field Engineers and Superintendents with daily tasks and provide technical support to subcontractors and craft staff.
- Perform quantity take-offs from construction drawings and track productivity.
- Monitor project progress and assist with job cost reports and month-end reconciliation.
- Review completed work to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Help prepare, review, and maintain engineering drawings and project bill of materials.
- Assist in the preparation of design and construction estimates.
- Maintain project files and correspondence while liaising with clients and internal departments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related program.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
- A valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- A strong work ethic and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
- Experience in the construction industry is an asset.
- Beginner knowledge of construction techniques, equipment, and building materials.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or Bluebeam is an asset.
