About the role#
Aecon is looking for an Engineering Co-op Student to join the Structures Team on the Deerfoot Trail Improvements Project in Calgary, Alberta. This is a site-based position where you will gain hands-on experience in heavy civil construction. You will work alongside experienced engineers and construction professionals on a significant transportation infrastructure project. The role covers various aspects of construction, including resource planning, scheduling, cost control, quality management, and daily field operations.
What you'll do#
- Conduct site audits and analysis.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports for project staff and stakeholders.
- Assist Field Engineers and Superintendents with daily tasks.
- Perform quantity tracking, productivity analysis, and quantity take-offs from construction drawings.
- Review completed work for quality and accuracy.
- Monitor project progress and assist with job cost reports and month-end reconciliation.
- Provide technical support to field staff, craft, and subcontractors.
- Assist in the preparation, review, and maintenance of engineering drawings and design estimates.
- Gather field information to assist with bills of materials.
- Maintain project files and correspondence.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal departments.
- Perform administrative duties as required.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology (CET), Construction Management, or related program.
- Previous experience in the construction industry is a strong asset.
- Beginner knowledge of construction equipment, techniques, drawings, building materials, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
- Beginner knowledge of AutoCAD or Bluebeam is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- A strong work ethic and high level of motivation.
- A valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
