About the role#
BURNCO Rock Products Ltd is seeking a Cybersecurity Student for a 4-month work term starting in May 2027. This position is based at our head office in Calgary. You will work alongside our cybersecurity team to monitor threats, manage incidents, and improve our security posture. This role provides hands-on experience in an enterprise environment.
What you'll do#
- Monitor security alerts and identify potential incidents across our platforms.
- Investigate, contain, and remediate security threats like malware, phishing, and unauthorized access.
- Review and prioritize vulnerabilities while working with internal stakeholders on remediation.
- Improve security operations by tuning alerts, automating tasks, and developing SOC runbooks.
- Maintain documentation for security incidents, procedures, and metrics.
- Collaborate with teams like Network, Server Infrastructure, and Cyber GRC to implement controls and support compliance.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program for Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with Windows server operating systems and Microsoft Office 365.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of networking, cloud security, and identity and access management is an asset.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles, monitoring, and incident response is an asset.
- Exposure to tools such as CrowdStrike, Microsoft Defender, or Qualys is an asset.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site position based in Calgary, Alberta.
- The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
- This is a paid 4-month summer term.
