About the role#
As a Machine Learning Engineer intern, you will work on simulator realism evaluation. You will develop tools to assess how well our simulations reflect real-world driving. This role involves working with both onboard teams and simulation technology stakeholders to improve our autonomous driving systems.
What you'll do#
- Build evaluation tools through ML modeling experiments and prototyping.
- Write code for Waymo's internal simulator and evaluation systems.
- Design statistical experiments to test the effectiveness of ML discriminators.
- Work with cross-functional teams to deliver improvements to safety and simulation technology.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a graduate program (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in C++ or Python.
- A strong foundation in core computer science concepts, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
- Experience with ML and statistics models, algorithms, and libraries.
- Knowledge of software systems, such as distributed systems and accelerated computing.
- An interest in autonomous driving, simulation, and physical AI.
- Preferred: Experience with physical systems like physics or robotics, proficiency in SQL, and strong communication skills.

- Compensation: $70 per hour for Master's students and $85 per hour for PhD students.
