About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027. You will join the Road Understanding team to build machine learning models that help our autonomous vehicles interpret complex road environments. You will work alongside research mentors and engineering teams to improve how our vehicles perceive lane geometry and map topology.
What you'll do#
- Design and build machine learning models for entity-centric lane geometry detection and relational topology decoding.
- Write high-performance code to implement core algorithms.
- Build data pipelines and train neural networks across vehicle sensor modalities and map priors.
- Create metrics to benchmark model accuracy and topological correctness at intersections.
- Analyze model failure cases and iterate on architectural designs.
- Evaluate the impact of your work on downstream planning and prepare insights for internal deployment or publication.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field.
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow.
- Hands-on experience designing, training, and debugging architectures for Computer Vision, 3D Perception, or Graph Neural Networks.
- Knowledge of 2D/3D geometry, coordinate transformations, and spatial reasoning.
- Preferred: A track record of publications in top-tier conferences like CVPR, NeurIPS, or ICRA.
- Preferred: Experience with vectorized HD map learning, lane topology estimation, or dynamic roadgraph modeling.
- Preferred: Experience with large-scale distributed model training and data infrastructure.
- Preferred: Familiarity with autonomous vehicle perception stacks, sensor fusion, and motion planning constraints.
