About the role#
This internship focuses on the development of perception foundation models for autonomous driving. You will join the AI Foundations team to work on machine learning solutions that help Waymo vehicles operate safely across various cities and conditions. This is a full-time, paid, hybrid position for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Research, implement, and evaluate zero shot object detection models for autonomous driving.
- Work with research and engineering teams to improve foundation models.
- Conduct research and potentially share findings through technical reports or publications.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Masters or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- A strong publication record in top-tier AI, ML, or robotics conferences.
- Hands-on experience training and evaluating deep learning models for robotics or autonomous driving.
- Strong Python coding skills with experience in frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow.
- A deep understanding of modern neural network architectures and learning paradigms.
- Experience with open-set perception models, such as SAM.
- Familiarity with autonomous driving datasets and open-source foundation models.

- Compensation: $70 per hour for Masters students and $85 per hour for Ph.D. students.
