About the role#
This internship focuses on the development of simulation and closed-loop training systems for autonomous driving. You will join a team dedicated to building the brains of our technology, working on complex challenges in deep learning and robotics. This position is a full-time, hybrid role for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Design, implement, and scale reinforcement learning post-training and distillation algorithms.
- Develop learned reward models, realism critics, and discriminators within a closed-loop multi-agent simulator.
- Run rigorous closed-loop ablation studies on large-scale TPU clusters.
- Write clean, modular, and well-tested JAX code for core simulation and autonomous driving codebases.
- Collaborate with researchers and engineers across simulation, world modeling, and autonomous driving teams.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related field.
- Anticipated graduation date between December 2027 and August 2028, with plans to return to your program for at least one academic term after the internship.
- Strong tensor implementation and debugging skills in Python and JAX/Flax or PyTorch.
- Hands-on experience training and modifying modern neural architectures, including Transformers, Diffusion/Flow models, or deep RL networks.
- Deep research expertise in either reinforcement learning and post-training or generative world, sequence, and trajectory modeling.
- First-author publications at top-tier machine learning or robotics venues are preferred.
- Experience with multi-agent closed-loop simulation, Sim2Real transfer, or reward-hacking mitigation is a plus.
- Familiarity with profiling and scaling distributed training workloads on TPUs or multi-node GPUs is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Mountain View, California.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: Hybrid.
