About the role#
This is a summer internship for a student interested in Information Security at a digital bank. You will work on-site at our headquarters in Wilmington, North Carolina, during the summer of 2027. This role is part-time and paid, offering exposure to how a bank defends its systems and sensitive financial data. You will participate in real project work, sit in on risk reviews, and present your findings to the team.
What you'll do#
- Monitor security alerts and document your findings.
- Assist with vulnerability scanning and track the progress of remediation efforts.
- Review access permissions across bank systems to ensure proper controls.
- Create security awareness materials to help employees identify phishing and social engineering.
- Use AI agents and assistants for research and writing tasks.
- Complete a summer project scoped with your manager and present the results.
- Observe incident response exercises, risk reviews, and vendor security assessments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program in cybersecurity, information systems, computer science, or a related field.
- Coursework, certifications, projects, or club involvement related to networking, operating systems, or access control.
- Hands-on experience using AI assistants or agents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to handle confidential information.
- A willingness to learn and ask questions.
- Familiarity with security tools for scanning, log analysis, or endpoint monitoring.
- Exposure to cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience building or customizing AI tools or workflows.
- Interest in AI security topics such as prompt injection and data leakage.
- Scripting skills in Python, PowerShell, or similar languages.
- Participation in capture-the-flag competitions, hackathons, or home labs.
- Prior experience in technology, financial services, or a regulated industry.
