About the role#
As a Hospitality Lending Analyst Intern, you will support the team that finances hotels across the United States. You will gain exposure to the full lifecycle of commercial real estate lending, from initial underwriting to post-closing monitoring. You will work directly with analysts, closers, and relationship managers on active transactions, providing insight into how the bank makes credit decisions for hotel owners and operators.
What you'll do#
- Support the underwriting of hotel acquisition, refinance, and construction loans through financial statement analysis, market research, and cash flow modeling.
- Help prepare credit memos and deal packages for internal review committees.
- Assist with due diligence by reviewing franchise agreements, appraisals, feasibility studies, and borrower financials.
- Aid the servicing team in collecting and spreading borrower financials, as well as monitoring post-closing exceptions.
- Build and maintain data regarding sponsor relationships, the deal pipeline, and portfolio performance.
- Maintain regulatory awareness, including BSA, AML, CIP, and OFAC requirements.
- Collaborate with the Managing Director on identifying and marketing to target clients.
- Identify and propose process improvements.
- Shadow calls and meetings with hotel sponsors, brokers, and internal stakeholders.
- Complete a capstone project or analysis to present to the team.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, Economics, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with comfort using Excel.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and a genuine curiosity about lending decisions.
- Ability to work both independently and within a small, collaborative team.
- Preferred: Prior coursework or internship experience in commercial real estate, banking, or hospitality.
- Preferred: Familiarity with financial modeling or credit analysis concepts such as DSCR, LTV, cap rates, and NOI.
- Preferred: Interest in the hospitality industry, including hotel operations, brands, or franchise models.
- Preferred: Exposure to PowerPoint or data visualization tools.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site internship located in Wilmington, North Carolina.
- The program runs for 10 weeks from May 17 to July 23, 2027.
- This is a paid, part-time position.
