About the role#
As a Data Engineering Intern at Live Oak Bank, you will help design and implement our next generation data warehouse and analytics platforms. You will work on a cross-functional scrum team to build data pipelines and core platform capabilities that provide trusted, high-quality data to our internal teams. This is an on-site, paid internship for Summer 2027 based in Wilmington, North Carolina.
What you'll do#
- Define and create data ingestion patterns, pipelines, and standards to support self-service analytics.
- Build data products from source to target, including transformative data models and data marts.
- Manage role-based access controls and fundamental Data Platform processes.
- Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and senior leadership to define and refine data analytics architecture.
- Participate in refining and prioritizing work to support analytics tools and processes.
- Establish and document designs, standards, and user guides for product teams.
- Engage in all phases of the Agile software development lifecycle.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or Computer Engineering.
- 2-6 months of hands-on experience with data modeling and transformation using tools like SQL, DBT, ascend.io, or Informatica.
- Experience with source code control in Gitlab or Bitbucket.
- 2-6 months of experience with AWS-based data warehouse technologies, such as Redshift, Databricks, or Snowflake.
- 2-6 months of experience with orchestration tools like Airflow or AWS Glue.
- Basic understanding of event-driven or streaming workflows using Kafka and Spark.
- Basic understanding of the Agile methodology and the scrum process.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
