About the role#
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is seeking a Graduate Computer Student for a Summer 2027 internship. This role is based in the Strategic Deterrence Directorate and offers practical research experience. You will work on projects involving numerical methods, machine learning, and computational physics. This position is paid and operates on a hybrid schedule, allowing you to work from home one day per week.
What you'll do#
- Provide technical support to scientists, engineers, and technical staff.
- Conduct research in your assigned area under limited supervision.
- Assist with the documentation, testing, and modification of laboratory software, hardware, or operating systems.
- Perform technical assignments of basic complexity.
- Present your findings through technical presentations or poster sessions.
What you'll need#
- You must be a continuing graduate student or have recently completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Physics, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
- A GPA of 3.5 or above.
- Coding experience in languages such as Python or C++.
- Experience applying principles of physics, engineering, or computer science to solve technical problems.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to document work and communicate research concepts clearly.
- U.S. citizenship is required for this position.

- Compensation: $10,215 per month.
