About the role#
Diverse Computing, Inc. is hiring a Junior Systems & Network Administrator for a multi-semester internship. This paid, part-time position requires 15 to 20 hours of work per week. You will work on-site at our Tallahassee office, with hours scheduled around your classes. We are looking for students who want to gain professional experience in systems and network administration, with the potential to transition into a full-time career upon graduation.
What you'll do#
- Act as the first point of contact for internal help desk requests, troubleshooting hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
- Monitor and maintain system infrastructure, including Linux and Windows servers, VMware environments, and databases.
- Prepare and configure new laptops and workstations for employee onboarding.
- Support the configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting of network hardware such as Cisco firewalls and switches.
- Manage access controls, monitor firewalls, and review system logs.
- Shadow the administration of backup systems and assist in routine testing.
- Build and maintain the internal IT wiki with technical documentation and policies.
- Study technical patch literature, test software upgrades, and assist the senior IT team with new technology integrations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field.
- Ability to work on-site in Tallahassee, Florida.
- Commitment to a multi-semester internship of at least two consecutive terms, including the Summer 2027 semester.
- Availability to start in the Spring 2027 semester.
- Understanding of computer hardware and macOS/Windows operating systems.
- Introductory knowledge of Linux environments and basic command-line navigation.
- Foundational knowledge of networking concepts.
- Effective communication skills and a focus on customer service.
- Ability to pass a rigorous fingerprint-based state and federal background screening and drug screening.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
