About the role#
This internship provides graduate students with practical research experience in the Strategic Deterrence Directorate. You will work on projects involving nuclear physics, hydrodynamics, astrophysics, plasma dynamics, and numerical methods. Research efforts combine theory with computation to support your educational goals.
What you'll do#
- Develop or use high performance scientific software to complete research tasks.
- Work with mentors under limited supervision on assigned projects.
- Take on projects of increasing complexity, gaining the freedom to identify fundamental solutions.
- Present your findings through an oral presentation and a poster session at the end of the summer.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited university graduate program or a completed Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
- Experience applying basic principles of physics, engineering, or computer science to technical problems.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- A track record of achievement in your field of study.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Math, Physics, and Engineering majors should intend to complete a Ph.D.
- Preferred qualifications include a 3.5 GPA or above and coding experience in languages like Python or C++.
