    About the role#

    This internship program offers undergraduate students the chance to engage in practical research to further their educational goals. Interns work alongside scientists, engineers, and technical staff to support projects in fields including computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics, chemistry, and various engineering disciplines. Participants gain hands-on experience by contributing to research planning, data analysis, and technical evaluations.

    What you'll do#

    • Provide technical and research support to ongoing projects under close supervision.
    • Gather and analyze data to support scientific research objectives.
    • Participate in research planning and evaluation discussions with team members.
    • Engage in the Data Science Summer Institute curriculum, which includes a team challenge, networking, seminars, tours, and events.
    • Present individual and team results to Lab staff and peers through presentations or poster sessions.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as an undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited institution.
    • Pursuit of a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering fields.
    • A minimum GPA of 3.0.
    • Ability to apply computational or mathematical principles to solve technical problems.
    • Proficiency with personal computers and software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Proven ability to adapt to challenging situations and work effectively in a team.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to present concepts clearly.
    • Must be 18 years of age or older by the start of the internship.
    • Eligibility to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the NDAA.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Livermore, California.
    • Term: Summer 2027 (options include May 17 to August 6 or June 21 to September 10).
    • Modality: Hybrid or on-site, depending on the specific assignment.
    • Compensation: Paid position with an hourly range of $23.26 to $31.62, based on a step structure determined by completed academic years.
    • Requirements: Selected candidates must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test, including testing for marijuana.
