About the role#
Nearby AI is a new company from NewsBreak building a trust-first marketplace for local home services. As an intern on the engineering team, you will help build the personalized provider-recommendation pipeline from start to finish. You will work alongside engineers and product managers through the full cycle of design, launch, and iteration.
What you'll do#
- Use LLMs to extract service requirements, preferences, and constraints from user conversations, profiles, and context.
- Combine semantic search, recommendation algorithms, and provider features to improve relevance and coverage.
- Build backstage pipelines that connect intent understanding, retrieval, provider comparison, and recommendation decisions.
- Perform entity matching across business information, reviews, credentials, and service coverage.
- Build evaluation datasets, analyze failure cases and user feedback, and improve system quality, reliability, and latency.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, AI, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Python or Java with solid data structures and algorithms.
- Hands-on experience developing LLM applications or agents, including RAG, agent workflows, or evaluation harnesses.
- Understanding of search, recommendation, or machine learning fundamentals.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the initiative to own results.
- Experience with embeddings, hybrid search, reranking, learning to rank, or personalized matching is preferred.
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, vector databases, or data pipelines.
- Evidence of shipped products, open-source contributions, or independent projects showing individual impact.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship based on-site in Mountain View, California.
- The program operates on a rolling basis.
