About the role#
Kiewit Power Engineering is hiring a Structural Engineer Intern for Summer 2027. You will work under the supervision of experienced engineers to support project success. This role requires flexibility and a focus on developing your technical skills while contributing to the design and documentation process.
What you'll do#
- Learn and apply departmental design standards, engineering codes, and company policies.
- Prepare basic engineering calculations and design sketches for final project plans.
- Calculate cost and quantity estimates based on project data.
- Assist in checking calculations, drawings, and documents.
- Review vendor drawings for structural construction commodities.
- Coordinate with other disciplines to resolve design interfacing issues.
- Submit project lessons learned to the internal database.
- Monitor construction progress on-site as needed.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis or a degree in Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- A GPA above 3.0 is preferred.
- Coursework in fundamental structural analysis, strength of materials, and steel or concrete design.
- Proficiency with basic spreadsheet, database, and word processing programs.
- Familiarity with structural analysis software, engineering software, and basic CADD tools.
- Specific knowledge of SAP2000, MathCad, and Navisworks is highly desirable.

- This is a full-time, paid internship located on-site in Lenexa, KS.
