About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in construction management. You will work on industrial projects including oil and gas facilities, power and co-generation, and major mine developments. You will contribute to construction operations while developing technical skills in field engineering, office engineering, and estimating.
What you'll do#
- Interpret drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision.
- Calculate quantities by measuring completed materials and work.
- Assist in the preparation of work plans, packages, and Job Hazard Analysis.
- Support field surveying, work layout, and the compilation of as-built data.
- Perform material takeoffs and basic engineering calculations.
- Process daily labor timesheets and enter data into job cost systems.
- Prepare purchase orders and subcontracts.
- Maintain project records, including daily reports, photographs, and requests for information.
- Supervise field operations and subcontractor tasks.
- Participate in safety reviews, toolbox meetings, and safety training.
- Assist in bid preparation by reviewing historical data and assessing project risks.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Ability to work full-time during the summer months, typically May through August.
- Willingness to travel or relocate as the project requires.
- Capacity to access all areas of a construction site in various climates and environments.
- Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines.
- Commitment to safety, ethics, and professional communication.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends when necessary.
