About the role#
As a Field/Office Engineer Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in construction management through our heavy civil, transportation, and water projects. This full-time internship provides an opportunity to participate in daily construction operations, from field surveying and safety planning to cost reporting and material takeoffs. You will work alongside experienced professionals to help deliver projects that connect communities and build infrastructure.
What you'll do#
- Assist in interpreting drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision.
- Perform quantity calculations and material takeoffs based on bid documents.
- Help prepare work plans, work packages, and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) documents.
- Support field surveying, work layout, and the compilation of as-built data.
- Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, and safety training.
- Assist with daily labor timesheets, project recordkeeping, and correspondence.
- Enter data into job cost systems and review cost reports with management.
- Coordinate material deliveries and supervise field and subcontractor operations.
- Perform basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support the team.
- Assist in the preparation of purchase orders, subcontracts, and change orders.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
- Ability to work full-time during the summer, approximately May through August.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently to meet deadlines and objectives.
- Willingness to travel and relocate to various project locations as business requires.
- Capacity to access all areas of a construction site in diverse climates and environments.
- A valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation to and from work.
- A demonstrated commitment to ethics, integrity, and safety.
- Ability to work rotating schedules, shift work, or weekends if project requirements demand it.
- Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Previous internship experience is preferred.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Phoenix, Arizona, though project assignments may require travel and relocation.
- This is a full-time, paid internship for the Summer 2027 term.
- Work is performed on-site.
