About the role#
This internship offers exposure to the full lifecycle of heavy civil construction projects. You will work alongside estimators, surveyors, project engineers, and superintendents to learn about planning, estimating, administration, and field operations. This is a paid, full-time position that provides practical experience in both office and field settings.
What you'll do#
- Assist with project documentation, including reports, bid packages, and correspondence.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and research material pricing or subcontractor quotes.
- Help prepare estimates, change orders, and progress payments.
- Support project scheduling and maintain project files.
- Participate in meetings and communicate with project stakeholders.
- Gain exposure to PennDOT ECMS processes and construction documentation.
- Assist survey crews with construction layout, grade verification, and field measurements.
- Collect and organize survey field notes and data using GPS technology.
- Shadow management personnel to observe project planning, execution, and closeout.
- Safely operate company vehicles and maintain equipment.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an Associate or Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Surveying Technology, or a related field.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Valid driver license with an acceptable driving record.
- Genuine interest in heavy highway, site development, and civil construction.
