About the role#
Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. is hiring a Construction Operations Intern to support our heavy highway, site development, and civil construction projects. You will work alongside estimators, surveyors, project engineers, and superintendents to gain hands-on experience in the project lifecycle. This is a paid, full-time, on-site role based in Grove City, Pennsylvania. The internship is rolling and provides exposure to preconstruction, project management, and field operations.
What you'll do#
- Assist with project documentation, including reports, bid packages, and correspondence.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and research material pricing or subcontractor quotes.
- Support project scheduling and maintain project files.
- Participate in meetings with project managers, superintendents, and stakeholders.
- Assist survey crews with construction layout, grade verification, and field measurements.
- Gain exposure to PennDOT ECMS processes, GPS technology, and surveying equipment.
- Shadow management personnel to learn about project planning and execution.
- Safely operate company vehicles between offices and job sites.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology, Surveying Technology, or a related field.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- An interest in heavy highway and site development construction.
- Previous exposure to excavation, paving, underground utilities, or surveying is helpful but not required.
