About the role#
This is a 12-week paid, full-time summer internship for students interested in polymer science and material characterization. You will work on-site in Wilmington, Ohio, to evaluate how texture attributes influence the performance of polymer decking products. This role focuses on hands-on scanning, digital data processing, and technical reporting.
What you'll do#
- Use laser profilometers and optical scanners to capture physical textures.
- Manage and organize digital scan files while following established equipment procedures.
- Process texture files to prepare them for detailed analysis.
- Compare texture data against performance metrics like scratch and mar resistance.
- Identify specific texture attributes that define an effective operating window for product performance.
- Provide weekly updates on your project progress.
- Compile your testing approach, data, and conclusions into a formal written report.
- Deliver a capstone presentation summarizing your findings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- An anticipated graduation date between December 2027 and May 2029.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Availability to work full-time for 12 weeks during the summer of 2027.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Reliable transportation to the work site.
- Aptitude for hands-on work and careful execution of physical measurements.
- Basic understanding of 3D scanning, 3D printing, or CNC operation.
- Basic Python coding skills.
- Experience or interest in digital image or 3D file processing.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and technical communication skills.
