About the role#
This is a 12-week paid internship for the summer of 2027. You will work on-site at our Pulaski, Virginia facility to gain hands-on experience in manufacturing performance and process improvement. You will collaborate with our Finishing and Heritage teams to analyze data and refine standard work procedures.
What you'll do#
- Learn the Finishing and Heritage production lines from start to finish.
- Shadow operators to understand their daily work and incorporate their feedback into your projects.
- Support the Continuous Improvement Engineer by gathering data, conducting time studies, and finding ways to eliminate waste.
- Apply Lean manufacturing methods and problem-solving frameworks to your daily tasks.
- Draft two to three new standard operating procedures or work instructions.
- Update four to five existing standard operating procedures or work instructions.
- Communicate project findings to a variety of audiences, from line operators to plant leadership.
- Follow all safety policies and maintain a strong safety mindset.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's program for Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
- An anticipated graduation date between December 2027 and May 2029.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Ability to work full-time for 12 weeks during the summer of 2027.
- Reliable transportation to and from the work site.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Foundational knowledge of Lean manufacturing (such as 5S or kaizen) and problem-solving tools like root-cause analysis or fishbone diagrams.
- Strong data-analysis skills and attention to detail.
