About the role#
This is a 12-week paid internship focused on Lean manufacturing, problem solving, and continuous improvement. You will work on-site to support the James Hardie Manufacturing Operating System (HMOS) at our Wilmington, Ohio location. The program provides hands-on experience through project-based work, mentorship, and collaboration with site leadership.
What you'll do#
- Support HMOS daily management systems, including KPI tracking and action item follow-up.
- Participate in Gemba walks, Lean workshops, and continuous improvement activities.
- Analyze operational data to find trends, performance gaps, and improvement opportunities.
- Develop and standardize processes, work instructions, and Lean best practices.
- Work alongside operators, supervisors, and cross-functional teams to support site initiatives.
- Complete an assigned continuous improvement project and present your findings, recommendations, and results to site leadership.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, or Business Administration.
- An anticipated graduation date between December 2027 and May 2029.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Full-time availability for 12 weeks during summer 2027.
- Strong communication, organization, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- An interest in Lean and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Reliable transportation to the work site.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
