About the role#
This internship supports the Thomas Nelson Fiction team at HarperCollins Publishers. You will work across both editorial and marketing functions to support book projects from proposal to publication. This is a paid position designed to provide hands-on experience in the publishing industry.
What you'll do#
- Attend team meetings including titling, staff, title alignment, production, editorial, marketing, and sales conference.
- Assist the team with managing the proposal log and filing for CIP data and copyrights.
- Learn standard proofreading marks and The Chicago Manual of Style while assisting with page proofs, final pass proofs, and manuscript styling.
- Draft and review catalog and back cover copy.
- Optimize retailer copy for backlist and frontlist titles and gain knowledge of data optimization.
- Help implement promotional campaigns and gather author input for PR pitches.
- Manage Librarian and Reviewer requests through NetGalley.
- Oversee the creation and distribution of ARCs.
- Research marketing trends and assist with mailings.
- Perform clerical tasks such as photocopying, printing, binding, filing, and note taking.
What you'll need#
- You are currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or master’s program.
- Preferred majors include English or Journalism.
- Ability to work 28 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, from June 7 to August 12, 2027.
- Availability to work in a full-time capacity in 2027 or 2028.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong knowledge of English grammar and usage.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Previous publishing internship experience is preferred.
- A specific interest in fiction and the publishing industry.
- A general understanding of the Christian market is a plus.
- Strong research skills and a professional drive.
Location & details#
- Location: Nashville, Tennessee.
- Modality: Hybrid. You must be in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with Mondays and Thursdays designated for remote work.
- Term: Summer 2027 (June 7 to August 12).
- Compensation: $18 per hour.
