About the role#
Commerce Bank is hiring a legal intern for the Summer 2027 session. This full-time, paid position offers the chance to learn about in-house legal work within a regulated banking environment. You will support our legal team through project work, research, and drafting tasks while shadowing experienced attorneys across various bank lines of business.
What you'll do#
- Perform legal research and draft memoranda on topics such as banking, information technology, employment, and corporate governance.
- Review and summarize regulatory updates and guidance.
- Analyze department procedures for process improvements and implement updates where necessary.
- Review, draft, and edit contract and agreement templates.
- Review intellectual property matters.
- Participate in meetings with internal legal and business stakeholders.
- Complete a capstone project and deliver an end-of-summer presentation.
- Provide regular progress reports on assigned work.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited law school degree program.
- Ability to conduct thorough, accurate legal research using statutes and regulations.
- Strong critical thinking skills with an eye for detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- A self-motivated, organized approach to independent work.
Location & details#
- Location: Kansas City, Missouri.
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.
- Term: 11 weeks, from May 18, 2027, to July 30, 2027.
- Modality: This role is primarily on-site.
- Compensation: $20.00 per hour.
- Note: Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
